As the national memorial to the Space Shuttle Columbia, the Columbia Memorial Space Center is dedicated to preserving the history of Downey’s aerospace program through our interactive exhibits and programming.  Today, more than 40 active volunteers of all ages and backgrounds help to maintain daily operation of the Space Center by leading robotics classes, guiding school tours, helping with various STEM programs and supporting special events like Rocket Fever, Family Nights, and the City of STEM Science Festival!

Each volunteer brings unique skills and talents to the Space Center. Volunteers learn while working alongside staff and other volunteers. As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to work with the community and form friendships with like-minded people.

Volunteers may:

  • Receive community service hours

  • Give back to the community you love

  • Connect with mentors from diverse backgrounds

  • Build a stronger resume

  • Participate in special CMSC events

  • Contribute in teaching young people about careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)

  • Interact with people of all ages and backgrounds
