What These Missions Aimed to Achieve

Apollo 1 Saturn IB AS-204 January 27, 1967

Apollo I was intended to be the first crewed mission of the Apollo program and low Earth orbital test of the Apollo command and service module. This was part of Project Apollo, which was the third United States human spaceflight program carried out by NASA.

Challenger STS- 51L Janurary 28, 1986

STS-51-L was the 25th mission of the NASA’s Space Shuttle program and the final flight of the Space Shuttle Challenger. One of the goals of the mission was to have science lessons taught to students by Christa McAuliffe, who was chosen to be the first teacher on board a space shuttle in space. Additionally, the crew was to launch the second Tracking and Data Relay Satellite.

Columbia STS- 107 February 1, 2003

STS-107 was a 16-day mission arboad the shuttle orbiter, Columbia. The mission focused on conducting cellular experiments in microgravity and testing materials for the International Space Station. Through these efforts, scientists learned about cell growth, how the body functions and the microgravity effects on materials in space.
